Why This Matters

Warhol cuts through a comfortable lie we tell ourselves—that waiting is the same as working. The real sting here is that time is merely the stage; we're the ones who must do the heavy lifting, whether that's mending a fractured friendship, learning a skill we've postponed, or breaking a habit that no longer serves us. A person might spend five years telling themselves that their marriage will improve "with time," when what actually needed to happen was difficult conversations, compromises, or honest reckoning about whether the partnership was worth saving. Warhol reminds us that passivity dressed up as patience is still just passivity.
